ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library’s Adult Spanish Book Club will meet next at Ursinus College for a special event with author Reyna Grande on Thursday, April 12. The award-winning author will offer a talk and Q&A (in English) on her extraordinary memoir, La distancia entre nosotros from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, followed by a book club discussion (in Spanish) at 5:30 PM. This event will be held in Olin Auditorium at Ursinus College, 601 E. Main St., Collegeville.
Reyna is two when her father leaves the family in Mexico and crosses the border into the U.S., hoping to earn enough money to build a home in Mexico when he returns. He sends for their mother but leaves Reyna and her two siblings in the care of the grandmother, Abuela Evila. Abandoned by both parents, the three endure hardship and poverty and long for their parents, who eventually return, first their mother with a new baby sister. Their father later returns and takes the three children back to the U.S., where new opportunities and challenges arise.
This program is free and open to the public. A copy of the book may be reserved at the Library or at www.ccls.org. No reservations required. For more information, e-mail Giovanna Steyaert at gsteyaert@ursinus.edu.
