An Evening with President Ulysses S. Grant

Thursday, September 19, 2019 An Evening with President Ulysses S. Grant

ABOUT THE EVENT

Kenneth J. Serfass brings his first-person portrayal of President Ulysses S. Grant to Phoenixville Public Library on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 PM. From his first inaugural address through the end of his second term as president in 1877, this first-person portrayal of President Grant seeks to dispel myths and scandals surrounding his presidency as well as offer anecdotes about the people around him in the Executive Mansion and the government. By offering insight “straight from the horse’s mouth”, Serfass will help attendees understand the Victorian era mindset and will demonstrate that tenacity, respect, humility, patriotism and many other values characterized Grant’s true nature as a loving family man and regular man of the people.

Retired Gunnery Sgt. Kenneth J. Serfass was born in Bethlehem, PA. He joined the USMC in 1984 and his final tour was with the First Marine Division Band during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ken was a Civil War reenactor and now is a first-person impressionist with over forty years of study of his self-avowed childhood hero, US Grant. He has created a niche as a full-time professional living historian portraying Ulysses S. Grant. He keeps the Facebook page, “US Grant in Living History”, to document his travels and adventures. Ken has been appearing publicly as General Grant since 2009, speaking at events across the country, and has visited many areas of Grant’s military campaigns across the south. He presents the general in as many venues as are relevant to the life of US Grant, from horseback rides, railroad excursions, and at various living history and roundtable events on a regular basis across many eastern and southern States. He brings Ulysses S. Grant to life in a believable manner.
