Phoenixville Public Library will host a talk by author Robyn Young on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 PM. Robyn Young is the author of the book Women in Penn’s Woods: A History of Women in Pennsylvania. In this photo illustrated presentation, she will describe her efforts to obtain historical markers for 18 women in Pennsylvania. A special focus will be on the women in science that now have markers, including botanists and horticulturalists such as Graceanna Lewis, Rachel Carson, Jane Bowne Haines, and Laura Leggett Barnes.
Robyn Young is an author, artist and speaker known as the “Marker Lady” for her work in having 18 roadside historical markers installed and dedicated to women in history throughout the state of Pennsylvania since 2002. Her book, “Women in Penn’s Woods,” is a history of 175 women in Pennsylvania’s history and received the Preservation in Publication Award from the Heritage Commission of Delaware County in 2016. Robyn paints watercolors of women’s history sites. Books will be for sale at this program. Note cards of her watercolors are for sale on her website, www.womeninpennswoods.com.
This event supports Longwood Gardens’ Community Read program and their celebration of women in science and horticulture. Each attendee to this event will be eligible for a drawing for free passes to Longwood Gardens. This year’s featured book for adults is “Lab Girl” by Hope Jahren.
