Sunday, November 11, 2018 Bells of Peace – A World War I Remembrance

ABOUT THE EVENT

WORLD WAR I CENTENNIAL

As part of the commemoration of the Centennial of the end of World War I, the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will hold a brief ceremony on Sunday, November 11 at 10:45 AM and will ring the Society’s recently acquired 1883 Gay Street School Bell. The Bell will be rung eleven times at 11 AM, symbolizing the Armistice, which ended World War I at the eleven o’clock on the eleventh day of the eleventh month (11 AM, November 11). The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, which will be held at the entrance to the historical society at 204 Church Street. The ringing of the bell at 11 AM is part of “Bells of Peace: A World War I Remembrance”, a nation-wide commemoration of the end of the war sponsored by the World War I Centennial Commission.
