ABOUT THE EVENT
Books on Tap, Phoenixville Public Library’s book discussion group for twenty- and thirty-something adults, will meet in person on Tuesday, August 30, 7:00 PM, at La Patrona Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar, 400 Bridge Street, Phoenixville. The group will discuss Colson Whitehead’s bestselling novel, Harlem Shuffle. Ray Carney leads a double life–and it gets more complicated. He’s an upstanding furniture salesman, lives a decent life with his wife and family, and is expecting their second child. But he descends from a line of uptown hoods and crooks–and the cracks in his facade of normalcy gets bigger all the time. When a crew and Ray’s cousin Freddie hatch a plan to rob the Hotel Theresa–the Waldorf of Harlem–Ray is volunteered as the fence and thus begins his struggle between Ray the striver and Ray the crook. Print and audio copies of the book may be reserved at www.ccls.org. eBook and eAudiobook copies may be reserved at https://chester.overdrive.com. This event is free and open to the public.
