Dyslexia: Myths, Symptoms & Solutions

Tuesday, October 01, 2019 Dyslexia: Myths, Symptoms & Solutions

ABOUT THE EVENT

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “Dyslexia: Myths, Symptoms & Solutions”, on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 PM. Debbie Service, dyslexia specialist and screener, will be the presenter. As a homeschooling mom of ten years, Debbie Service had no idea why two of her four children struggled to read, write and spell. She tried different reading programs, formalized assessments and doctors’ visits. It wasn’t until she was introduced to the Orton-Gillingham methodology that her two children started to learn how to read with minimal frustration and consistent success. Soon after using this program, she learned that her children had dyslexia, an inherited condition that affects 20 percent of our population. She says if she had known they had dyslexia, she could have prevented much frustration and many tears. One of her passions is to educate parents, so that children with dyslexia will have every opportunity to learn with success. This presentation will cover dyslexia’s myths, symptoms and solutions.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required on the Adult Events Calendar at www.phoenixvillelibrary.org or by calling 610-933-3013 x132. Phoenixville Public Library is located at 183 Second Avenue, Phoenixville, PA.
