9am to noon, 9-10 reserved for for shoppers 60 and over
Hello Market Friends,
First of all, we hope you are well. This is indeed a very trying time as we all make changes in our lives to protect ourselves and our entire community from Covid-19.
Governor Wolf has specifically declared farms and farmers’ markets life-sustaining and we should stay open. We have consulted with the Chester County Health Department, Penn State Extension, and the CDC and PA guidelines and are taking important steps to provide you with our producers good food while practicing social distancing. Please read our information below to help us.
- Most of our producers are taking preorders so you can limit your time at the market. Look for specific information in their listings.
- The market will open at 9am this week. The first hour will be reserved for the most vulnerable members of our community: those 60 and over and those with pre-existing medical conditions. This is an honor system
- Please keep 6 feet between yourself and other shoppers and producers. We are spreading the market out and marking “standing spots” every 6 feet to make this easier. We are also moving some of the producers to keep lines from getting too close to one another. We will print rudimentary market maps and post them at the market.
- Please consider sending 1 family member to the market to reduce the total number of shoppers. The rest of the family can walk along the French Creek Trail. Experts say that fresh air is good for us!
- We absolutely love dogs! At this time, we are asking shoppers to leave their dogs at home if they can. Again, the trail is a great place to take a dog for a walk. Please consider sending your dog on a walk with a family member or housemate.
- We ask that any shoppers who feel sick or are sneezing and coughing to stay home. Maybe a neighbor or friend can be your personal shopper.
- If you have been to a Level 3 country or New York City in the last 14 days please stay home to protect others.
- We will ask all shoppers to purchase any item they touch. We’ll have reminder signs throughout the market.
We are taking every possible precaution to keep us all safe.
- We will have 2 central hand washing stations at the market complete with soap, water, paper towels, sanitizing wipes and tissues.
- All food will be pre-packaged
- All tables will be sanitized prior to the start of the market
- Many of our producers will be taking pre-orders to reduce your total time at the market. You can read the details in the listings below.
- Our producers are food professionals and they will practice approved food safety measures. They’ll be washing their hands frequently and wearing disposable gloves where appropriate.
- When possible, our producers will not require signatures for credit card payments.
- Finally, we know that the market is a wonderful gathering place for friends and family and we ourselves often great one another with hugs. This week, we will all adopt the thumbs up as our greeting to say thumbs up for community, local farms and local food!
Finally, right now it looks like we will have rain on Saturday. Please wear rain gear and bring an umbrella as we will not be able to crowd under the bridge. On the bright side, the rain is good for our farmers’ crops.
A few of our producers are not coming this week, but they ship their products. They are listed at the end of the newsletter.
Please stay safe and healthy. |

These volunteers at a North Carolina farmers’ market demonstrated an easy way to estimate a six foot separation. Make sure there is a little distance between your outstreched arm and the person’s next to you! |
