Calling all friends of a feather, including bird lovers, nature nerds, curious kids, and anyone who loves a good fall festival! Flocktoberfest 2026 is a free, family-friendly celebration of birds, nature, creativity, and community, held in honor of World Migratory Bird Day.
Join us on Saturday, October 10, from noon to 4 PM at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, 121 Church Street, Phoenixville, for an afternoon filled with things to see, hear, try, and discover.
Flocktoberfest is organized by Sprout Reach in partnership with Valley Forge Audubon Society, Bird Town Pennsylvania, ReReRe Plastics of the Phoenixville Green Team, Indian Run Environmental Education Center, Canadian Tuxedo, Phoenixville Borough’s Tree Advisory Committee (TAC), and the Phoenixville Area Senior Center (PASC).
Every Bird Counts, and Every Observation Matters!
This year, Flocktoberfest falls on the autumn observance of World Migratory Bird Day, a global celebration held each spring and fall to coincide with the remarkable seasonal journeys of migratory birds. The 2026 theme, “Every Bird Counts: Your Observations Matter!”, celebrates the power of community science.
A bird spotted from a kitchen window, recorded during a walk through a park, or entered into a citizen science project can become part of a much larger body of information. Together, these observations help scientists understand bird populations, migration patterns, changing habitats, and emerging threats.
That makes Phoenixville an especially fitting place to celebrate.
Proud to Be a Bird Town
We are proud that Phoenixville is an official Bird Town Pennsylvania community. The Borough joined the Bird Town Pennsylvania program in 2024 as part of its commitment to making Phoenixville a healthier and more welcoming place for birds, wildlife, and people.
Through the program, municipalities, organizations, and residents work together to restore habitat, support native plants, reduce threats to birds, encourage community science, and help people discover the wildlife living right outside their doors.
Flocktoberfest is a chance to celebrate that commitment and discover how each of us can be part of it. You do not have to be an expert birder. In fact, you do not even have to know a chickadee from a nuthatch. Curiosity is enough!
Get an up-close look at live birds of prey, explore the Bird-Friendly Cloister Garden Observatory Sanctuary, and discover how yards, gardens, balconies, and community spaces can provide food, water, shelter, and habitat for birds.
Learn about the art and science of nature journaling, using both traditional and digital tools to slow down, look closely, and record what you notice. Then put those observation skills to work through citizen science and STEM activities that show how everyday observations can contribute to real scientific research. Around the world, observations made by volunteers help researchers track bird populations, understand migration, identify important habitat, and guide conservation efforts.
There will be plenty for younger flock members, too. Enjoy bird-themed activity tables and hands-on nature activities, listen to live music from the Singing Songbird Series, and meet people from local organizations working to protect birds, wildlife, and the environment.
You can also explore practical ways to reduce plastic use at home, learn how everyday choices can make our community safer for birds, and find out how your own property can become part of Phoenixville’s growing network of bird-friendly spaces through the Bird Habitat Recognition Program.
Whether you keep a life list of every bird you have ever seen or can only tell cardinals from the LBJs (“little brown jobs”), you belong at Flocktoberfest. Come wander, listen, observe, sketch, make something, meet a raptor, try some citizen science, and celebrate the extraordinary birds that live in and migrate through our community.
Most of all, come help us celebrate something worth being proud of: Phoenixville is a community that recognizes that caring for birds, habitat, and the natural world makes our Borough a healthier, more beautiful, and more connected place for everyone.
