ABOUT THE EVENT
The Fourth Wednesday Readers, Phoenixville Public Library’s in-person book discussion group for adults of all ages, will meet next at the Library on Wednesday, October 25 at 1:00 PM. The group will discuss Horse, the award-winning, bestselling novel by Geraldine Brooks. Kentucky, 1850: Jarret, enslaved groom, and a bay foal forge a bond that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. As the Civil War erupts, an artist who has made his name painting the horse, joins Union forces. He reunites with the stallion and groom during dangerous times, far from any racetrack. NYC, 1954: A gallery owner becomes obsessed with a 19th century equestrian painting with mysterious provenance. Washington, DC, 2019: A Smithsonian scientist from Australia and a Nigerian-American art historian are drawn together by their shared interest in the horse. Based on the true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred, Lexington, who became America’s greatest stud sire, Brooks writes a gripping, multilayered reckoning of the legacy of enslavement and racism.
