ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host Bright Star Touring Theatre, a national professional touring theatre company, for a presentation of “Freedom Songs: The Music of Black History” on Monday, February 9, 6:30 PM, at the Library. This musical revue provides an energetic and engaging approach to learning about Black History. From songs which carried the secret messages needed to navigate the Underground Railroad, to the powerful anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, to the Beale Street Blues, music has long been an integral part of American history which is celebrated in this production. Bright Star’s professional actor/singers take audiences on a musical tour through hundreds of years of history, sampling songs that spread across centuries and continents, and explaining the history behind these famous ballads, hymns and musical styles.
Each year, Bright Star Touring Theatre, based in Asheville, NC, serves nearly 1,000 audiences in schools, theaters, libraries, museums and more across the country. They offer a wide variety of curriculum-based programs ranging from The Lady of Bullyburg to Lincoln and Tubman. The company performs regularly at the National Theatre in Washington DC and has gained international support, accepting an invitation from the U.S. Embassy to visit Moscow, Russia with their programs. Bright Star is committed to providing professional theatre to audiences at an affordable and all-inclusive rate. Information about all their interactive shows, including production videos, photos, study guides and more is available online at www.brightstartheatre.com.
