ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “Ghost Towns in Pennsylvania,” on Monday, November 2, 6:30 PM, at the Library. Local historian Michael Martorelli will be the speaker. Throughout its history, Pennsylvania has had a handful of major population centers and lots of small villages in rural locations. Most were centered around mining, lumbering, or farming. As the economy in some of those rural locations changed, the people involved in those industries found it necessary to abandon their town and move on to settle someplace else. Many of those towns and villages found a second life or even a third, but others remained abandoned; some even became absorbed into the natural forests. In this presentation local historian Michael Martorelli looks at some of these towns that once were thriving but that now sit abandoned. This event is free and open to the public. The program will also be livestreamed on Zoom for those unable to attend in person. Registration is required at https://ccls.libcal.com/calendar/Phoenixville/ghost-towns-pa or by calling 610-933-3013 x132. Email mpinto@ccls.org for more information.
