ABOUT THE EVENT

Visit the Irish wake site for the below information, tickets, and more here.

The Wake begins at 6 pm on March 17 with a meal of Shepherds Pie and Sly Fox’s version of Guinness called “Softly Fallen Darkness Oatmeal Stout”. The cost is $20 for an in-person experience or take-out/zoom video option.  The Celebration of Life, in the Irish tradition, begins with wailers. followed by an Irish Dance performance, Bagpipers, and a musical performance by Lisa Vorel.  The Comedy finale is YOU, telling your funny stories and silly jokes.  If you can make our corpse laugh (Mayor Peter Urscheler), you win a prize. Remember this is a PG audience!

After the jokes end, everyone is invited to our Second Floor for dessert and prizes where you will be greeted by professionals working in the fields of long-term health care, hospice, law, financial services, funeral services, and more.  Through introductory conversations and information provided, you will leave with an idea of how to proceed with your family conversation.

The success of this evening depends on YOU.  Bring your best joke or story to share. Click the box below to let us know that you would like to speak.

The Phoenixville Area Senior Center is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to serve, support and enhance the lives of older citizens of Phoenixville and its surrounding municipalities in both Chester and Montgomery Counties through programs and activities designed to promote active, independent, and healthy lifestyles.

We love our participants and their families like our own.  We share their joys and their sorrows.  Over the years we answered many calls asking for help as parents and children came to the end of their lives.  Often, it was never discussed.  It is physically and emotionally draining.  It is very hard to start a conversation for which you don’t even want to think about, or you know is going to cause a rift in the family.

Our dilemma became how can we help families begin the conversation.  We learned after the first one that “Did you see what the Senior Center is doing? I think we should go to their Irish Wake.” starts the conversation.
