Monday, February 13, 2017 Local Author Book Talk: June McInerney: “The Prisoner’s Portrait: A Novel of Phoenixville During World War II”

ABOUT THE EVENT

June McInerney’s historical novel is based on the true story of German POWs housed at Phoenixville’s Valley Forge General Hospital. June will talk about how she came to write the novel and develop her characters, and about the actual portrait of the novel’s title and how it came to Valley Forge University. Books will be available for purchase. Jack Ertell of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will also deliver a short presentation on the POWs at the hospital using photos from the Society.

June J. McInerney is local writer and literary critic. She is the author of a series of historical novels about Phoenixville, including The Prisoner’s Portrait, the Schuylkill Monster, and, most recently, Columbia Hotel. June has also penned a number of collections of short stories, two volumes of poetry, and books and lyrics for musicals that have been produced by various theaters across the country. Originally from New York, she holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in abstract mathematics and English Literature as well as an Associate’s Degree in theology. She loves living in Phoenixville , which, she has often commented, is, in many respects, very much like it was during World War II.
