ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host a free virtual talk by local author Bruce Mowday on his newest book, Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero. The Zoom event will be held Monday, November 22 at 7:00 PM.
Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero clearly shows the battle of Brandywine as a key event in American history because of Gen. Lafayette. As Chuck Schwam, Treasurer of The American Friends of Lafayette, wrote in the book’s foreword: “This book certainly goes a long way in fulfilling our common goal: making sure that Americans understand that Lafayette and the Franco-American alliance were indispensable components of ensuring the United States’ independence from England. Sharing Lafayette’s legacy with the general public is a top priority of The American Friends of Lafayette. This extraordinary book clearly proves that Bruce has the same goal. Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero does a perfect job of helping us understand what motivated a “Boy General” to put himself in harm’s way at his very first battle. He did not stay on the sidelines like most aristocrats of the day, but went where musket balls and artillery fire whizzed by him. Not because he was told to be in the “thick of it,” but because he chose to be.”
Bruce Mowday is an award-winning author and newspaper reporter. He has appeared on the Discovery ID channel, C-SPAN, and the Pennsylvania Cable Network, along with Philadelphia and local television shows. He recently appeared on “Counter Culture”, a PBS Emmy-winning show, about his book, Stealing Wyeth. He lives in West Chester, PA.
