“Lovers, Loners & Enemies”: A One-Woman Performance

Monday, October 09, 2023 “Lovers, Loners & Enemies”: A One-Woman Performance

ABOUT THE EVENT

Phoenixville Public Library will present a performance of Lovers, Loners & Enemies on Monday, October 9 at 6:45 PM. The play is performed by Katherine Mallon-Day, and is compiled and directed by Mary Anne Carlson Morgan. The one-woman play explores the world of dramatic literature. Whether it be the ancient Greeks, Shakespeare, or a modern playwright, the persons they create mirror the humanity of their times and reflect for us the universality of the human condition. Beautiful language, angry language, and painful language—they all express for us the emotions we experience and often try to understand.

A transplant from north central Pennsylvania to the Philadelphia area, Katherine Mallon-Day has performed with the Arden Theatre Company, Gretna Theatre, the Media Theatre for the Performing Arts, the People’s Light and Theatre Company and the Lost Colony in North Carolina. She has performed with Opera Philadelphia (Chorus), Philadelphia Singers Chorale, and is a long-time professional singer at St. Peter’s Church in the Great Valley. Katherine has been featured locally in cabaret and solo recitals, as well as in original theatrical and vocal productions, including performances at the Philadelphia Fringe. She was previously seen at the Phoenixville Public Library in Say No More. When not performing, she teaches voice at Montgomery County Community College, Settlement Music School and in her Paoli studio.
A native Midwesterner, Mary Anne Carlson Morgan moved to Pennsylvania to obtain her MA in Theatre at Villanova University, and then embarked on a career in acting, teaching, and directing. Along with extensive acting at Villanova she appeared in productions at the Walnut St. Theatre, was a founding actor in performances with the Philadelphia Theatre Company and performed in historical dramas during the Bicentennial. Mary Anne taught acting privately and at Temple University, directed theatre productions for various schools, and was chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Radnor High School where she taught acting and directed over sixty theatre productions. She was married to the late actor Brian Morgan and supports a scholarship and award for graduate students in the theatre department at Villanova University. She sings with Kate Mallon Day in the choir at St. Peter’s Church in the Great Valley, where they have also presented Lovers, Loners & Enemies.
