ABOUT THE EVENT

Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “More Than Meets the Eye: The Microscopic Life of Pennsylvania Waters”, on Monday, March 25 at 6:45 PM. John Lisowski will be the presenter. The ponds, lakes and streams of Pennsylvania are alive with creatures too small to be seen by the naked eye. This presentation provides a brief introduction to light microscopy and highlights, by videos taken through the microscope, many examples of these fascinating microscopic creatures. It also includes insights into why these tiny organisms are important to us and how you can begin your own exploration of the microscopic world.

John Lisowski has a BA in Biology and an MS in Organization Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania, plus biological research experience. He got involved early in Information Technology and computers and then had a 37 year career in Healthcare Information Systems and IT Service Management with Shared Medical Systems and Siemens Healthcare. After retiring in 2018, he rekindled his interest in biology, microscopy and natural history. He completed the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist (PMN) program in 2019 and is currently co-leader of the PMN Chester County PMN Chapter. He shares his interest in natural history and microscopy through various volunteer initiatives.

This event is free and open to the public. The program will also be livestreamed on Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
