ABOUT THE EVENT

Edgar S. Cahn, Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of the District of Columbia School of Law, will deliver a keynote talk on Sunday, April 28, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Phoenixville. The talk, titled “No More Throw-Away People,” will be given as part of the Annual meeting of Phoenixville Area Time Bank. All are welcome. Arrive at 7 pm. for light refreshments, music, and networking. Keynote starts at 7:30 pm.

Edgar Cahn will speak about how “Time Dollars” contribute to the well-being of TimeBank communities, helping those in need: the elderly, under-employed, and other populations whose economic status constrains quality of life.

Professor Cahn teaches Law and Justice and directs the Community Service Program at UDC School of Law. He is founder of TimeBanks USA; the Time Dollar Youth Court; and CareBanks. His use of “time dollars” as an economic strategy for addressing social problems is described in his books, Time Dollars (1992) and No More Throw-Away People: The Coproduction Imperative (2004), showing how to mobilize a nonmarket economy that recognizes and rewards reciprocal contributions of service and caring.

He earned his B.A. from Swarthmore and his M.A., Ph.D., and J.D. from Yale.

The event is sponsored by the Phoenixville Area Time Bank (PATB), a non-profit organization that empowers people to share their talents and build a resilient community.
