ABOUT THE EVENT
Green Valleys Watershed Association will host a stormwater Best Management Practices evaluation and management workshop for up to 50 participants at their headquarters at the Welkinweir Arboretum on Thursday evening, February 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The workshop, titled “Performance Landscapes: Monitoring the Success of Stormwater Management Practices (Powered by PechaKuchaTM)”, will feature case studies in evaluation technologies and management strategies that maximize the landscape’s ability to capture and filter stormwater runoff.
Participants will hear from 13 stormwater management and monitoring professionals, including individuals from Princeton Hydro; LandStudies Inc.; GreenWeaver Landscapes; Villanova University; Philadelphia Water Department; Green Valleys Watershed Association; Natural Lands Trust; the Chester County Conservation District; and Weeds, Inc. The presenters will show each case study in a “PechaKuchaTM” format: a concise presentation of 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds and automatically advanced. The format, from the Japanese for “chatter”, was developed by a Tokyo-based architecture firm to facilitate energetic and succinct sharing of ideas.
The workshop is designed for land planners, engineers, landscape architects, facilities managers, landscape contractors, and county watershed steward volunteers, but all individuals who are concerned about stormwater are welcome to attend. Continuing education credits are available from the American Society of Landscape Architects; credits are pending from the American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association, and for Pennsylvania pesticide applicators. Letters of attendance will be provided to professionals. The cost of the workshop is $10, with an additional $25 CEU processing fee. Online registration, biographies of the presenters, and workshop agenda are all available at www.greenvalleys.org/performance-landscapes-workshop/; questions may be directed to Margot Taylor at margot@greenvalleys.org. Contact 610-469-4900 for directions to Welkinweir Arboretum. The workshop is sponsored by The William Penn Foundation and Green Valleys Watershed Association.
“Powered by PechaKucha” events are one-off events that are separate from regular city-based PechaKucha Nights, and are usually held as part of festivals and conferences, but can also act as standalone events. These events include presentations that use the PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds format. Find out more at www.PechaKucha.org.
