ABOUT THE EVENT

The Phoenix Book Club will meet next at Phoenixville Public Library on Monday, February 5 at 7:00 PM. The group will discuss All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. The novel is the 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner, a National Book Award finalist, and spent more than 2 1/2 years on the NYT Best Seller List. A story of survival amid the devastation of World War II, the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner Pfennig collide in occupied France. Marie-Laure, a blind girl, lives in Paris near the Museum of Natural History where her father works. When the Nazis occupy the city, the two flee to the walled citadel of St. Malo, to be with her reclusive great uncle in his house by the sea. They carry with them the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel. Orphaned Werner and his young sister grow up, enchanted by a crude radio that brings them stories and news from places they hardly imagine. Werner becomes expert at building these instruments and is enlisted to use them to track down the resistance.

The Book Club will also discuss Willa Cather’s One of Ours, from their cancelled January meeting. A copy of these books may be reserved at the Library or at www.ccls.org. The club is free and open to the public. Reservations not required. For more information, call 610-933-3013 x132 or e-mail mpinto@ccls.org.
