ABOUT THE EVENT

The Phoenix Book Club will meet next on Monday, February 4 at 7:00 PM at Phoenixville Public Library. The group will meet to discuss Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. In Brooklyn during the Great Depression, 12-year-old Anna Kerrigan accompanies her father to the house of Dexter Styles, a man, she gleans, is crucial to the survival of her father and her family. Years later, her father has disappeared and Anna is working at the Brooklyn Naval Yard as the first female diver, repairing ships for the war. She is the sole provider for her mother and her severely disabled sister. by chance, she meets Dexter Styles again and begins to understand the complexity of her father’s life and why he may have vanished.
