ABOUT THE EVENT
The Phoenix Book Club, Phoenixville Public Library’s book discussion group for adults of all ages, will meet virtually on Monday, October 10 at 7:00 PM. The group will discuss the novel West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. When Woodrow Wilson Nickel, 105, learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he must recount. It’s 1938 while the Great Depression hangs on. Hitler threatens Europe and world-weary Americans longed for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. Inspired by true events, the tale takes us on a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to deliver Southern California’s first giraffes to the San Diego Zoo and shows how we are changed by the kindness of strangers and the grace of animals. A physical copy of this book may be reserved at https://www.ccls.org. The public is invited to attend this Zoom event.
