ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Day Care Center was first established in 1965 as a volunteer program to provide afternoon care to children who came home from school to an empty house. It was the brainchild of Dr. Lola Reed, a well-known pediatrician. In 1966, Phoenixville Day Care Association was charted as a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization and a day care program began with the purchase of the Bishop Funeral Home on 310 Main Street. Misty Webb became the first Executive Director in 1966. She developed a successful program that provided for the physical and emotional needs of the children from low-income families in Phoenixville. Later the name was changed to Phoenixville Area Children’s Learning Center to emphasize the inclusion of a pre-school education.
