In the Community Education Room

Learn about the people and industry of Phoenixville that supported the Union during the Civil War. The presentation will highlight the volunteer units formed in Phoenixville, the men who served, and the battles in which they participated, as well as civilian life during the war, especially the roles played by the women of the community.

Jack Ertell is a former president of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area. He currently serves as a board member, archives chairman and editor of the Society’s newsletter. A retired teacher and administrator from the Phoenixville Area School District, he is currently an Adjunct Lecturer in History at the Chester County campus of Delaware County Community College. Mr. Ertell is a graduate of Albright College and holds a Master’s Degree in History from West Chester University, with additional graduate studies at Temple University, Penn State University and West Chester University.
