ABOUT THE EVENT

Phoenixville Public Library, will host a free presentation, “Prisoners of War during the American Revolution”, on Monday, December 18 at 6:45 PM. Valley Forge National Historical Park Guide, Russell Brindley, will be the speaker. Both American and British forces struggled to figure out what to do with captured soldiers and sailors throughout the American Revolution. Many were sent to the infamous HMS Jersey, the Newgate Prison, or to Camp Security. Valley Forge also served as a prisoner of war camp in December, 1778 for a British army of 6,000 men. Learn what happened to these soldiers and sailors when they arrived. This event is free and open to the public. The program will also be livestreamed on Zoom for those unable to attend in person. Registration is required at https://ccls.libcal.com/calendar/Phoenixville/prisoners-of-war or by calling 610-933-3013 x132. Email mpinto@ccls.org for more information.
