ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “Riding the Rails: 175 Years of Passenger Travel” on Thursday, May 23 at 7:00 PM. Tony Grubb of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania will be the speaker. Imagine what it was like to travel on passenger trains throughout the years up to today and what railroads did to make themselves more appealing to the traveling public. Troy will discuss the means of transportation before railroads, specifically early roads and canals. Next you’ll hear about early railroad travel up to the “Golden Age” of passenger travel. Then Troy discusses the twilight of rail travel before the creation of Amtrak, when the interstate highway system and air travel became more dominant. Finally, Troy looks at the resurgence of rail travel. This event is free and open to the public.
