ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “School-Based Addiction Prevention”, on Monday, January 2 at 6:45 PM. Teri Miller-Landon, MSW, Director of Programs for Compass Mark, will be the speaker. Effective and comprehensive school-based prevention programs help students develop social skills, decision-making skills, and coping skills, all of which are important tools for kids in avoiding substance use. Since kids are often at-risk years before they use, prevention programs should begin as early as elementary school, with frequent reinforcement throughout middle and high school. In this presentation, Teri will review the research and science behind effective addiction prevention, youth risk and protective factors that addiction prevention programs hope to mitigate and enhance, current drug trends for youth in Chester County, and specific programs delivered by Compass Mark. Support and guidance will also be shared about the vital role that parents play in addiction prevention. This event is free and open to the public. The program will also be livestreamed on Zoom for those unable to attend in person. Registration is required at https://ccls.libcal.com/calendar/Phoenixville/school-based-addiction-prevention or by calling 610-933-3013 x132.
