ABOUT THE EVENT
Local singers Teresa D’Andrea, mezzo-soprano, and Thadd Shirey, baritone, will sing from The Great American Songbook on Monday, September 25 at 7:00 PM at Phoenixville Public Library. Their program will feature songs by Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter, as well as music from Broadway.
On the concert stage, Ms. D’Andrea has appeared as guest soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Kennett Symphony Orchestra and was guest artist in Paris in the Mozart Requiem with the Ile St. Louis Orchestra. She is a regular guest performer with the Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea at the New Jersey Shore and has appeared with the Hilton Head Orchestra in “Cavalleria Rusticana”, “Carmen” and “Lucia”. With the Chester County Pops in their summer concert series “That’s Entertainment”, she received a standing ovation in a Rodgers & Hammerstein program of favorites. Operatic appearances include the Witch in Hansel & Gretel, Suzuki in “Madame Butterfly”, Flora in “La Traviata”, Valencienne in “The Merry Widow”, Lola in “Cavalleria Rusticana”, Maddalena in “Rigoletto”, Katisha in “The Mikado”, and the title role in “Carmen”. Equally at home in the Broadway repertoire, Terry has sung leading roles with touring and regional companies throughout the United States, including productions of “Showboat”, “Kismet”, “A Little Night Music”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “The King & I”, “Man of La Mancha”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Fiddler on the Roof”. Legitimate theatre performances include roles in “Steel Magnolias”, “Glass Menagerie”, the title role in “Medea”, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “The House of Bernarda Alba” and “Riders to the Sea”. This versatile performer delighted audiences in her one-woman show as the legendary Lily Langtry and appeared in “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” at the Showboat in Atlantic City, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center and the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Ms. D’Andrea has done “extra” work in films and infomercials and has appeared on television and in voice-overs.
On the operatic stage Mr. Shirey’s rich baritone has been heard in major roles including those in “I Pagliacci”, “Cavelleria Rusticana”, “La Boheme”, “La Traviata”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Massenet’s “Manon”, “La Sonnambula”, “Madama Butterfly”, “Carmen”, “The Merry Widow”, “Die Fledermaus”, “Rigoletto”, “The Student Prince” and “Land of Smiles”. Equally at home in crossover work, Thadd’s Broadway and light opera repertoire include principal roles in “Carousel”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “A Little Night Music”, “Showboat”, “Man of La Mancha”, “1776”, “Old Man and the Thief”, “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, “The Telephone”, “H.M.S. Pinafore” and “The Mikado” at Philadelphia’s famed Academy of Music. As one reviewer wrote, ”the added plus was the coup of obtaining the operatic voice of Thadd Shirey who sings in a voice that sends shivers down the spine…” International performances and cruise circuits have brought this engaging baritone to Iceland, Scotland, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Paris. He has appeared as guest soloist in the Mozart Requiem, The Brahms Requiem and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. At home, he has appeared as guest artist at Carnegie Hall, with The New York Grand Opera, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, The Ocean City Pops, The Kennett Symphony, The Syracuse Symphony, the Key West Symphony and The Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea.
