Terrific Visits with Your Older Loved Ones

Terrific Visits with Your Older Loved Ones

Monday, December 10, 2018 Terrific Visits with Your Older Loved Ones

ABOUT THE EVENT

Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “Terrific Visits with Your Older Loved One” on Monday, December 10 at 7:00 PM. Gregory J. Smith, BSW, will be the speaker. Ever wonder what to say or do when visiting an older loved one? Worry about running out of things to say? Intimidated by dementia?
Many people make brief visits to those in assisted living, rehab facilities, or nursing homes — or avoid visiting completely — because they dread awkward moments. Don’t let these concerns stop you from visiting. Recent research shows that loneliness is a major health problem, especially among older adults. It’s important to find ways to overcome the fear and reluctance, because visits from family and friends give older adults the connection and support they need.
In this free program, Social Worker Gregory J. Smith will show you how to ease fears and make your visits more meaningful. He will present and discuss the award-winning 1973 short film, Peege, and offer his “10 Tips for Terrific Visits”.

Gregory J. Smith, BSW has been a Social Worker for 30 years, mainly in nursing homes. His specialty is Gerontology, and he has also worked for Aging and Adult Services. He has also been on the other side of the fence as a caring family member — his mom was a nursing home resident for three years before her passing.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required on the Adult Events Calendar at www.phoenixvillelibrary.org or by calling 610-933-3013 x132. Phoenixville Public Library is located at 183 Second Avenue, Phoenixville, PA.
