ABOUT THE EVENT
Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “The Schuylkill River Indians: First Residents of the Phoenixville Area”, on Monday, February 11 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, an event rescheduled from last November. Paul Kusko of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will be the speaker. Who were these Indians? Where did they come from? Where did they go? Beginning with the Historical Society’s unique collection of local Lenape artifacts and utilizing credible historical documents and texts and Moravian Missionary diaries, this presentation will tell the story of the Lenape People in an attempt to answer these intriguing questions.
Paul Kusko lives in Phoenixville. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area for eight years and was vice president for some of that time. He continues as an active member working on various committees while maintaining a focus on local Native American history. In addition to being a history buff, Paul spends much time exploring and advocating for a healthy environment. He has traveled wilderness areas and canoed and kayaked many waterways. After years of paddling Pennsylvania’s rivers, the Schuylkill River in particular, he came to appreciate the Native American names and lore associated with villages and hamlets along the waterways.
