United States Coast Guard Band Concert

United States Coast Guard Band Concert

Sunday, June 10, 2018 United States Coast Guard Band Concert

ABOUT THE EVENT

In recognition of Doug Munro, the only member of the U.S. Coast Guard to be awarded the Medal of Honor, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge will rededicate the Coast Guard Memorial Fountain on campus at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 10.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a ribbon-cutting and 21-gun rifle volley. On hand to thank the volunteers who refurbished the fountain area will be District Commodore Barry Kyper, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and retired Coast Guard Commander Doug Sheehan, the nephew of Doug Munro.

After the dedication, at 2 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard Band, under the direction of Lieutenant Commander Adam R. Williamson, will perform a free outdoor concert. This family-friendly event is the final performance of the 2018 concert tour for the premier band representing the Coast Guard.

The concert will include Kevin Puts’ “Millennium Canons,” followed by a virtuosic xylophone solo performed by Musician First Class Nathan Lassell of Virginia. Also on the program will be marches by John Philip Sousa and others, Leonard Bernstein’s music from “On the Town,” an energetic sailing song medley, and the passionate “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez.
