ABOUT THE EVENT

Phoenixville Public Library will present violinist Melinda Rice and harpist Candace Lark-Masucci in concert on Tuesday, June 20 at 6:45 PM. Their program features music by Hispanic composers inspired by dance. Composers include Brazil’s Luiz Bonfá and Francisca Gonzaga, Argentina’s Astor Piazzolla, Mexico’s Consuelo Velázquez, Cuba and Venezuela’s Alfredo Rolando Ortiz, and England’s Ignatius Sancho.

Melinda Rice is a violinist and songwriter interested in creating space for genuine reaction. Melinda returned to Pennsylvania in 2020 after a decade and a half exploring music in southern California with ensembles including the Craft in America House Band, A Tribute Ensemble, Isaura String Quartet, Wild Up, and The Industry. Melinda has two albums of original works, and wrote the libretto for an opera called Bonnie and Clyde. Melinda leads the string ensemble at Ursinus College, teaches at Community Music School, and is working on an album project tentatively titled murmurations, the first track of which is out on Strange Woman Records.

Candace Lark-Masucci is a native of Philadelphia where she began piano at seven. After many happy years of piano, she began Harp at Settlement Music School. She went on to study with Anne Sullivan a Curtis Graduate, Curtis teacher, and Founder of Harp Mastery. Candace attended the famous Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and Graduated from Arcadia University with a double major in Music Performance and Special Education. Candace is a certified Harp Mastery Coach, coaching harpists all over the country and at all levels to meet specific music goals. She’s the co-founder of Harp Quest, a supplemental harp program for youth. Candace has taken her years of experience and coaches musicians to success as The Happy Musician Coach, in which she teaches musicians strategies for a growth mindset to gain musical success. She is a sought-after harpist in the tri-state area performing regularly with various jazz and classical ensembles and collaborating on special projects.
