The Washington Memorial Chapel, one of Valley Forge’s most-recognizable structures, was added to the National Historic Register by the United States Department of the Interior
Described by President Woodrow Wilson as “The Shrine of the American People”, the Washington Memorial Chapel was erected between 1903 and 1917 as a memorial to the leadership and character of George Washington.
The chapel is currently undergoing a $4.5 million restoration project ; to date, about $1 million has been raised. The remaining $3.5 million is in the process of being raised through a national appeal.
