Look forward to streets of carnivorous gelatin and…vinyl? The Colonial Theater has announced that the theme for their 2016 Blobfest Façade Contest will be “The Vinyl Frontier,” in honor of those oh-so-practical sci-fi jumpsuits of Sixties cinema.
Participating businesses who enter the contest by committing to having a window display by June 1st, and actually having the window in place by July 1st (First Friday), will have the opportunity of a free month of complimentary screen advertising at the Colonial Theater, as well as a mention in the Blobfest program (as part of the “People’s Choice Award”).
Possible prizes include a full year of complimentary screen advertising for the first-place display, six months for second place, and three months for the People’s Choice Award. Facades/windows are to be fully decorated by Friday July 1st to be considered a participant in the contest, and displays should stay up until at least Monday July 11th. Judging will be based on creativity, showmanship, and relationship to The Blob and/or the double feature movies (these are classic sci fi film This Island Earth, the peculiarly star-studded B-movie Queen of Blood, and award-winning recent Canadian horror anthology film Late Night Double Feature), and winners of first and second place will be announced on Saturday, July 9th, during the stage show.
