From: 2026 VISTA NextGen Superstars: Emerson Cairns
At just 17 years old, Phoenixville resident Emerson Cairns is already making a meaningful impact in her community — blending entrepreneurship, service, and creativity in ways well beyond her years.
A senior at Phoenixville Area High School and the Founder and Vice President of Kit’s Kloset, Cairns represents the next generation of mission-driven leadership in Chester County.
Cairns launched Kit’s Kloset at just 13 years old, turning a vision for helping others into a growing nonprofit organization. Today, her responsibilities include merchandising the store, coordinating donation retrievals, meeting with clients, handling business development, managing communications, and overseeing day-to-day operations.
Her proudest professional accomplishment so far? Securing a new headquarters for Kit’s Kloset on the Ann’s Heart campus in Phoenixville, a major milestone that expands the organization’s ability to serve the community.
In addition to running a nonprofit, Cairns began teaching violin at 15 years old. She works with students one-on-one and in small ensembles, teaching new music, refining technique, and helping young musicians grow in both skill and confidence. Balancing leadership and mentorship at such a young age speaks to her drive and maturity — qualities shaped by those who have influenced her most. Cairns credits her mother, Phoenixville Mayor Peter Urschler, Officer of Emergency Management Karin Williams, and Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jessica Capistrant as key inspirations in her journey.
Cairns plans to attend college in the fall of 2026, potentially at Penn State, where she intends to major in mechanical engineering. When she’s not running a nonprofit or teaching music, you might find her at George’s Music in Chester County. And at the top of her bucket list? Traveling to at least 10 different countries. With entrepreneurial spirit, community commitment, and a global outlook, Cairns embodies what it means to be a 2026 VISTA NextGen Superstar.
