A 2020 Census “call to action” from the Chester County Commissioners

A 2020 Census “call to action” from the Chester County Commissioners

July 20, 2020

Now, more than ever, a full count of a 10-year census is crucial. COVID-19 is probably the most drastic example of why we need to count EVERY PERSON living in Chester County so that we can receive the levels of funding needed to support our population. Each person counted for our 2020 Census – including newborns and children – brings just over $2,000 into the community, every year, for 10 years. That’s $2,000 PER PERSON | PER YEAR | FOR 10 YEARS.

Compared with national and state standards, Chester County’s response rate so far to the 2020 Census is good. We have reached a level, county-wide, of just over 73%. But as we expected, there are areas of the County where that percentage is much lower. And also, as expected, those areas are the ones most in need of the funding that we receive based on the census count.

So, we are calling on you NOW to step-up, get out into your community and find ways to reach everyone in the area who has not yet completed the Census. We are relying on YOU as a key partner, to help our Chester County communities get to a higher level of response for the 2020 Census.

Below are links to two videos – the same video in English and Spanish – that we have created for social media, website and any other use that you can think of! These videos specifically reference the southern Chester County region/urban areas like Coatesville and West Chester to get the message across locally. We have selected these areas because they are the ones most in need of focus to increase the 2020 Census response rate.

PLEASE use these videos and all of the other 2020 Census tools as much as you can, to physically help our residents complete the 2020 Census, and to ensure we secure more funding for Chester County. If, when asked, someone has already filled in the Census, thank them and ask them to make sure their family and friends fill it in as well. If someone hasn’t completed the Census, show them how!

We thank you in advance for taking up this “call to action” for the 2020 Census, and for all of the many other contributions you make to our Chester County community. And we welcome any feedback that you have on efforts that have brought you success in the 2020 Census response. We would love to share those successful ideas with others!
