The all-volunteer staffed Thrift Shop of Phoenixville, donated $54,000 to local non-profit organizations this year. Since opening in 1975, the shop has donated $950,000 in its 44 year history of giving back to the community. A large group of Thrift Shop volunteers, community members, and Phoenixville Hospital Leaders attended the donation ceremony and the reception that followed. A new independent bookstore in Phoenixville is hoping to carve a niche in the Age of Amazon by becoming a true community bookshop, writes Maria Panaritis for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Reads & Company is co-owned by Jason Hafer, who used to own and run Wolfgang Books in Phoenixville, and former QVC executive Robb Cadigan.
