The Mont Clare Bridge Trail Connection, a critical link between Montgomery and Chester counties on the Schuylkill River Trail, has been completed and is now available for bicyclists and pedestrians to enjoy, according to a report from GVF.
The analysis of Mont Clare Bridge was first done in 2013, thanks to a William Penn Foundation grant awarded to GVF through the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC).
Construction on the new connector of the Schuylkill River Trail across Mont Clare Bridge began in October 2019 and was completed in October 2020.
The newly completed connection makes it possible for pedestrians and bicyclists to travel safely from Phoenixville to the village of Mont Clare, using a 0.2-mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail.
This part of the trail now boasts LED lighting on the bridge and under the train trestle on the Phoenixville side, an enclosed walkway along with ADA-accessible curbs, and lighted signage for the municipalities being entered or exited.
The project was completed with the help of Phoenixville Borough, GVF, Chester County, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, PennDOT, and the DVRPC.
