French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust Announces Two New Board Members

Devault, Pa., April 21, 2023 — French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of two new board members, Kara Dougherty and Tyler Wren, who will serve as welcomed additions to a dedicated and robust board.

“Kara and Tyler have been passionate about conserving natural resources and open space for many years,” said Jen Trachtman, Board President. “I look forward to adding their experience, strengths and foresight to those of an already dedicated Board of Directors.”

Kara Dougherty is Vice President and Associate General Counsel at FIS in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. In her role, Kara provides legal advice to various business units, including Wealth and Retirement, Credit and Lending, and Corporate Liquidity. Kara previously served as Counsel and then Senior Counsel for FIS’s predecessor, SunGard, and was an Associate with Blank Rome LLP. Kara also serves on French & Pickering’s Auction Committee.

Tyler Wren is an Attorney for Berger Montague PC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has 50 years of broad experience in environmental, land use, zoning, and historical preservation law. Tyler currently serves as Vice Chair for the East Nantmeal Township Board of Supervisors, Chair for East Nantmeal Township Ordinance Review Committee, Vice President of the East Nantmeal Land Trust, President of the East Nantmeal Historical Society, and Solicitor for Oxford Borough Civil Service Commission.

“I have enjoyed working with Kara as an Auction Committee volunteer and look forward to bringing her passion for preservation to the Board. Tyler has been very supportive over the years, and we look forward to putting his well-known commitment to conservation to work as we expand the depth and breadth of our work throughout northern Chester County,” said Bill Gladden, Executive Director.

Land Preservation

Since 1967, French & Pickering has protected more than 13,500 acres in northern Chester County through purchases, conservation easements and public/private partnerships. The non-profit organization works with landowners, townships, foundations and the state and county to purchase and monitor conservation easements, create parkland, and preserve environmentally sensitive land.

 

Public Access to Preserved Lands

Now more than ever, outside recreational opportunities are important to our mental and physical health. These French & Pickering properties are open to the public and contain miles of marked hiking trails and scenic views:

 

The Templin Woods Preserve in East Nantmeal Township is over 550 acres of woodland wildlife habitat. This valuable natural space is home to many species of birds and mammals and is an important source of clean water for the Great Marsh ecosystem. 

 

The 108-acre Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve, located in East Nantmeal and Warwick townships includes the ruins of the Warwick Iron Furnace and the Exceptional Value south branch of the French Creek and is recognized as a “Birding Hot Spot” by the Valley Forge Audubon Society.
