Phoenixville, PA October 2016: Beginning November 1, area high school girls can submit their applications for the 2017 Girls in Medicine program. Created by The Clinic, Girls in Medicine is a rigorous healthcare enrichment program that connects high school girls interested in healthcare careers with hospitals and providers who can help them learn how to achieve a career in medicine. The program is designed to increase self-esteem, confidence, and leadership while introducing the girls to the academic, social, and emotional challenges of working in healthcare.
The 2017 Girls in Medicine program will include a two-week healthcare intensive, where academic and clinical learning will be combined. The intensive includes a one clinical rotation at Phoenixville Hospital and a skill based academic program at Paoli Hospital. In addition to the hands-on clinical learning, students will participate in a six-month mentorship program, receive coaching for healthcare-oriented college visits, and launch a Girls In Medicine club at their local school “At The Clinic, we believe our role in the community is two-fold: One, to meet the needs of uninsured and underinsured patients in our communities, and two, to educate the next generation of healthcare leaders, who can sustain this work and drive better healthcare forward for all,” says Marrea Walker-Smith, Author and Director of Girls In Medicine. Visit www.theclinicpa.org to download an application. Students are encouraged to apply early to the popular program. Only 50 students will be accepted. |
