PHOENIXVILLE:
Health Care Access of Phoenixville has achieved recognition by the Board of Immigration Appeals and EOIR (Executive Office of Immigration Review) to be able to provide legal assistance to immigrants with their status.
The Immigration Services Program will assist residents with their immigration status issues, provide advice and counsel, and offer resource information to those cases that go beyond their expertise. Many people are under the impression that filling out applications can be done by anyone – this is not the case and giving legal advice and assistance without the proper training can actually harm someone’s case, and is illegal.
HCA has been recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and the Executive Office of Immigration Review to provide low-cost legal assistance by an accredited staff member, Marjorie Arias. To be recognized, an organization must apply; and establish that it charges only nominal fees; assesses no excessive membership dues for persons given assistance; and that it has at its disposal adequate knowledge, information and experience in immigration law and procedure. Arias, the tri-lingual staff member who will be administering the new Immigration Services Program (ISP), went through a rigorous training program of 40 total hours as a part of the application procedure.
The Immigration Services Program will assist residents of the Greater Phoenixville area with immigration issues including: Applications for Naturalization, Employment Authorization, Travel Documents, and Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Petitions for Non-Immigrant Worker (visas), Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, Petition for Alien Relative, and Refugee/Asylee Relative Petitions. These applications and petitions will be filed with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Health Care Access is the first nonprofit in the area to have achieved this recognition from the Board of Immigration Appeals.
