WEST CHESTER, PA (May 20, 2025) – On May 3, 2025, students from Phoenixville High School took a stand against gender-based violence by organizing and hosting the Third Annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” at Reeves Park. The event drew over 25 participants—including students, teachers, and local community members—who walked one mile in high heels to raise awareness and funds to support survivors of sexual assault.

The event, entirely student-led, was part of the international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. With powerful and heartfelt speeches, and students striding in heels of all kinds, the atmosphere was one of solidarity, empathy, and purpose.

“Not only does the Phoenixville Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event benefit CVC financially it also furthers their mission by raising awareness.” shared Vivona Xu, a Junior at PHS. “By hosting a public event, we increase the education and understanding surrounding the stereotypes women face on a daily basis.”

Proceeds from the event of over $2,800 benefitted The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc, which provides critical services such as a 24/7 hotline for victims of crime and their families, in person accompaniment, 24/7 crisis counseling, individual counseling in addition to education programs to prevent violence before it starts.

Phoenixville Mayor Peter Urscheler has been involved with the event since its inaugural year and shared, “Each year, I’m deeply moved by the leadership and empathy shown by Phoenixville’s students through Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. Their courage to speak out, step up, and stand with survivors is a powerful reminder that change begins with compassion and community. I’m proud to support this student-led effort and the incredible work of The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County.”

In addition to the walk itself, the event featured guest speakers from the local community, information booths, and a resource fair for students and families.
