The Philadelphia Museum of Art, with the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, has begun its launch of the second half of the 2016 season of Inside Out, a major arts initiative that brings high-quality reproductions of Museum masterpieces into communities throughout the city and region.
On Wednesday, August 3, 10 pieces of artwork were installed around downtown Phoenixville, with locations including the Borough of Phoenixville, the Phoenixville Foundry, the Historical Society of Phoenixville, and the lot next to the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce offices. An eleventh piece will be installed on Bank Street (indicated as #4 on the map – see below for more details) in the next one to two weeks.
The framed reproductions represent key works from the Museum’s world-renowned collections of American, European, Latin American, and Asian art, and are placed within walking or biking distance of each other. All of the works are either mounted on walls or placed on free-standing posts, displayed in frames representative of the time period in which they were created, and accompanied by a descriptive label.
Guided tours will be made available throughout this promotion, but you can plan your own walking tour using the Art Inside Out interactive map App available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, or by picking up a map at the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce offices.
