Laser Cataract Surgery Enhancing Safety, Accuracy and Precision

Moore Eye Institute is offering premium, laser-assisted, cataract surgery to the Delaware Valley.

Phoenixville, PA – For years, Moore Eye Institute has been dedicated to providing the Delaware Valley with innovative eye care. Now, under the surgical expertise of Dr. Ravi Patel, Moore is pleased to announce they are among the first offering premium laser-assisted, bladeless, custom cataract surgery.

This premium procedure is performed with a state-of-the-art femtosecond laser and has a number of benefits over traditional cataract surgery. This technology takes some of the more challenging steps, such as creating a self-sealing incision, out of the surgeon’s hands to make the procedure more safe, accurate and precise.

In contrast to conventional cataract surgery where the surgeon makes a manual incision, the femtosecond laser creates an incision at a precise depth, without a blade but using a light wave. This ensures greater accuracy and placement of the artificial intraocular lens implant.

The laser also softens and fragments the cataract allowing the surgeon to use less ultrasound energy when removing it, which may be safer for the patient. After the cataract is removed, a new artificial intraocular lens is implanted into the eye, and vision is corrected.

The laser also uses skilled image-guidance to take pictures of the eye allowing for the procedure to be tailored to each patient individually.

“Laser-assisted cataract surgery provides patients with a better overall experience because it is more precise and accurate,” says Ravi Patel, M.D., M.B.A, Moore Eye Institute’s Director of Cornea and Refractive Division.

22 million Americans aged 40 and older have cataracts, and 1.5 million will have cataract surgery at some point in their lives. The only way to treat cataracts is with surgery.

Currently, Moore is among the only practices offering laser cataract surgery in both Delaware and Chester County. Dr. Ravi Patel is available for interviews. Contact Rachel Dromgoole at Rachel.dromgoole@mooreeye.com to arrange an interview or for more information.
