Wyomissing, PA –
A five-chamber mixer that was once held annually was resumed this year and, thanks to new sponsors, good organization, and the cooperation of the chambers, was a big success.
Attending the August event at Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford were about 170 members and guests from the Spring-Ford, Perkiomen Valley, Phoenixville, TriCounty and Upper Perkiomen chambers of commerce, according to Caroline Buto of Tompkins VIST Bank.
Buto, manager of the bank’s Oaks and Pottstown offices, had the idea to resume the once-annual mixer, which had been on a four-year hiatus because of the challenge of finding sponsors and organizing such a large event. She contacted Carla Haydt, executive director of the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce, about the idea and offered the bank as a lead sponsor. An enthusiastic Haydt in turn secured Pope John Paull II High School as co-sponsor, and the event began to build momentum. Buto and Haydt formed a small organizing committee which contacted the chambers to request help, including in-kind materials from members.
“My goal was to create the opportunity to meet new faces and make connections,” said Buto. Given the turnout and the enthusiasm of participants, she and Haydt are already looking for dates to hold next year’s mixer.
