Phoenixville Hospital Installs Innovative Siemens Biograph mCT PET/CT Scanner at their Limerick Outpatient Center

July 31, 2019

[Phoenixville, Pa, July 2019] ― Physicians at Phoenixville Hospital can now offer advanced, noninvasive PET, CT and PET/CT imaging services in a comfortable system designed for patients up to 500 lb. The new Biograph mCT enables the quantification of molecular processes in the body, with advanced applications in oncology, cardiology and neurology.

Biograph mCT provides accurate and reproducible quantification in PET/CT imaging by ensuring optimization of each element of the imaging chain, which offers many benefits to physicians and their patients. Oncologists can characterize the tiniest cancer lesions more precisely, which permits better staging and monitoring of changes in activity over time. This allows for a more accurate assessment of treatment response. Cardiologists can more accurately assess multi-vessel disease by quantifying absolute myocardial blood flow. Biograph mCT may also aid neurologists in the evaluation of neurological disorders and dementia.

Biograph mCT offers exceptional patient comfort with a large, patient-friendly 78-cm bore. Its open design and fast scan times may help patients feel more comfortable and less claustrophobic.

“We are very excited to bring the Biograph mCT to the Phoenixville Hospital Outpatient Center in Limerick to advance our PET/CT capabilities. This system will provide our doctors with a wide range of imaging options for many different types of patients,” said Steve Tullman, President and CEO, Phoenixville Hospital.

Biograph mCT is flexible to accommodate a wide patient demographic. Its innovative dose-reduction technologies minimize patient exposure to radiation. Additionally, the system’s fast scan times result in less patient motion, so image quality and the overall patient experience can be optimized.

“The Siemens Biograph mCT gives Phoenixville Hospital one of the most cutting-edge imaging systems available today,” said David Malamed, MD, Chief of Radiology at Phoenixville Hospital.  “We now have a versatile PET/CT system that is fast, highly accurate, and allows us to deliver comfortable imaging experiences to our patients. With the many workflow-enhancing features on the system, we anticipate that it will enable us to increase the number of patients who can take advantage of these valuable imaging services. Siemens Biograph mCT is a quantitative leap forward, redefining images and setting another new standard in diagnostic imaging.”
