79,000 Without Health Insurance in Chester & Montgomery County
The Clinic will host an Annual Dinner to raise funds for comprehensive medical care to uninsured and under-served population in Chester and Montgomery County.
Despite the milestones with the Affordable Care Act, 40,000 residents in Chester County and 39,000 in Montgomery County are still without medical insurance. Last year, The Clinic had 8,300 patient visits, coordinated 4,200 laboratory test, and $1,000,000 in Pharmacy Assistance for residents in Chester and parts of Montgomery County. “We have not seen much of a decline in patient visits at The Clinic, said “Thomas Burd, Executive Director. The Clinic continues to be a source for the uninsured and underserved population with an average of 700 patient visits per month.
Most of the patients served at The Clinic are within 150-200% of the federal poverty guidelines. But, The Clinic is also attracting patients that are employed, but unable to pay the cost of insurance premiums in the workplace. As a charitable clinic, patients are asked to “pay what they can.” The Clinic receives no government funding and operates from foundation grants, donor support, fundraising and volunteers. Phoenixville Community Health Foundation and Independence Blue Cross Foundation are the largest contributors to The Clinic.
“The Clinic is preparing for an influx of new patients which means increased cost for their care,”
said Thomas Burd, Executive Director. The Annual Dinner is an opportunity to raise funds and awareness of the challenges faced by the uninsured and underinsured population in Chester and Montgomery County. This year, The Clinic will present Dr. Lorna B. Stuart co-founder of The Clinic and retired medical director with an award established in her name sake. Louis j. Beccaria, Ph.D, President & CEO of Phoenixville Community Health Foundation will be a speaker at the event. Dr. George Spyropoulos, new medical director at The Clinic will deliver the keynote address.
