The Clinic’s Culture of Caring Shows the Spirit of Mr. Rogers Alive in Phoenixville

The Clinic has been at 143 Church Street for the past 17 years. The number 143 has additional meaning for the center, including the $143 spent on each patient visit, with more than 8,000 visits each year. It also provides a connection to Fred Rogers, whose mission of kindness is mirrored by The Clinic.

“It takes one letter to say ‘I’ and four letters to say ‘love’ and three letters to say ‘you,’” said Beth Flor, The Clinic’s Director of Development. “Fred Rogers’s favorite number was 143, because to him, it stood for love.”

This is why, last year, the organization named its new patient fund the 143 Fund.

Since 2002, The Clinic has treated more than 130,000 patients who were either uninsured or underserved in the Greater Phoenixville area. The friendly atmosphere ensures that even the most nervous patients are put at ease.

“The Clinic was founded on a model of not asking a lot of questions,” said Lew Osterhoudt, the organization’s Executive Director. “If you are sick, we will see you.”
