Phoenixville, PA In 2011, the Pennsylvania State Senate designated February 14, “National Socks for the Homeless Day”, encouraging all citizens to be mindful of those experiencing homelessness and to undertake a call to action by donating socks for the homeless.
Over the last 12 years, The Joy of Sox® has distributed almost 700,000 pairs of new socks to 5 countries and 34 states, plus Washington D.C.
To mark this occasion, founder Tom Costello Jr, Board members, and volunteers delivered socks to Kristen McGee, Executive Director of Ann’s Heart, Code Blue Center in Phoenixville. The Joy of Sox®’‘s fundraiser, “Valentine’s Day = Love is in The Pair” kicked off February 1.
The socks delivered today were exclusively manufactured for those experiencing homelessness by Pear Socks in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The socks are anti-microbial, have seamless toes, arch support, terry soles, and are soft. They feel good when putting them on. They come in sizes for men, women, and children. The socks were purchased with $3,500 raised from a fundraiser, “Let’s Knock the Sox off Phoenixville” in honor of a volunteer’s
birthday.
