West Reading, PA., January 2, 2020 – Effective January 1, 2020, 110 clinicians and staff from Drexel Medicine have joined Tower Health Medical Group (THMG), expanding the health system’s network of primary care and specialty practices in size, capability, and reach. As of December 31, 2019, 52 physicians, 10 advance practice clinicians, and 48 support staff had accepted offers to join Tower Health, and more may join in the near future. These additions will expand access to Tower Health services in Family Medicine, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Gastroenterology, Neurology, and Rheumatology at locations in Philadelphia, Phoenixville, and Reading. In addition, eight Drexel University College of Medicine Internal Medicine physicians will provide primary care services in a THMG office in Philadelphia.

In May 2019, Tower Health and Drexel University signed a Letter of Intent to form a combined academic medicine physician practice via Tower Health Medical Group. With the closure of Hahnemann University Hospital in July 2019, the process to find opportunities within Tower Health for affected Drexel providers and support staff was accelerated.
A combined Tower Health and Drexel University academic medical group offers numerous benefits to both organizations including an expanded clinical footprint, the expansion of Tower Health’s academic medicine mission, increased opportunities for medical student clinical rotations, and potential synergies in clinical research. It will also complement the development of additional residency programs at Tower Health hospitals.
