Unite for HER, the West Chester-based nonprofit that helps women who are dealing with breast cancer fill the gap between medicine and wellness, is hosting its annual fundraiser at the Phoenixville Foundry tonight, writes Cherri Gregg for CBS Philly.
The nonprofit introduces women to acupuncture, yoga, and massage therapy. These are just some of the services not covered by insurance that can make a significant difference on the way to recovery.
“It ends up being very debilitating, and it ends up being a lot of anxiety and a lot of stress,” said Sue Weldon, a 12-year breast cancer survivor and the founder of Unite for HER.
Unite for HER provides free wellness services to 1,000 women each year, but last year it was forced to turn away 200 women. To avoid a similar situation, the nonprofit hopes this year’s fundraising event will raise enough money to ensure no woman is turned away.
“The need keeps growing,” said Weldon. “Our goal is to saturate the area treating more women, and we don’t want funds to hold us back.”
